Important steps in the development and implementation of planned maintenance programs for DC motors include following a recommended preventative maintenance schedule, consisting of the following regimen:
- Monthly: Wipe off dust, dirt, oil, etc.
- Quarterly: Clean vent screens and fans
- Semi-Annually: Lubricate bearings; vacuum or blow out interior; check commutator, brushes and leads; check brush spring tension; test armature windings; check electrical connections; and test field coils
